Introducing a bold new addition to the MayFord vegetable range – the vibrant Purpurina F1 Hybrid Cauliflower.
This striking purple variety brings excitement to the vegetable garden and your plate and forms part of our esteemed Sakata Premier Selection series. If you’re looking to grow something truly unique this season, Purpurina is here to steal the spotlight.
Cauliflower, whose name comes from the Latin caulis (cabbage) and floris (flower), has been cultivated for over 2,500 years. While traditionally white, Purpurina turns convention on its head with its vivid royal purple hue, a natural pigment that adds both visual flair and nutritional value. It’s cauliflower, reimagined.
But this variety isn’t just a pretty face. Purpurina produces compact, semi-rounded heads weighing between 1 and 1.2 kg, with fine grains and a pleasantly mild flavour. The plants are vigorous, upright in habit and offer good resistance to heat and common diseases, making it a reliable choice for most gardeners.
It’s also fast-growing, ready to harvest in just 55 to 65 days from transplant. In frost-free areas, you can sow almost all year round, from mid-summer to mid-spring. In frost-prone areas, aim for mid-summer through to the end of autumn. Sow seeds in trays and transplant when seedlings reach around 10 cm in height for best results.
Every MayFord packet is marked with 30 seeds, but you’ll find 36 seeds inside, because we believe in going the extra mile to ensure your garden thrives.
Whether you’re growing for nutrition, novelty or sheer garden joy, Purpurina is your go-to choice for bold, beautiful brassicas. Purple is the new white and it’s here to colour your world!
